Swindon Town's Michael Timlin extends stay with Southend United for another month
Michael Timlin, Blues midfield loanee from Swindon Town, has extended his loan period for a furher month as Craig Easton's calf injury continues to cause concern. Timlin: 'I would jump at the chance to stay here'The boy can play and has a great left foot, as any who saw his free-kick at Hereford will testify to, so as the Shrimpers skipper Craig Easton struggles to return from injury, taking longer than expected, it's good news that the Swindon midfielder will be staying at Roots Hall beyond the Crewe game Saturday which was the previous deadline.The Wiltshire club was more than happy to have a player fit and in first team football for at least another month than wasting his time away on the subs bench, and, probably more important, getting another club to pay his wages!The present agreement will see his final game on the latest deal go up to the Accrington Stanley home game on November 13th, but probably missing the FA Cup First Round tie the previous weekend.Blues boss Paul Sturrock made it quite clear that he would have to go cap in hand to Shrimpers supremo Ron Martin to make sure we could afford to pay him! Luggy said: "It is something I have to discuss with the chairman which will happen later today (Thursday). But the finance of a Football Club comes first, like it has done at every club I have been at, that's very important." Well at least his negotiation skills are stronger than his tactical acumen after Saturday's fiasco!Timlin told www.southendunited.co.uk last week: "The gaffer and Tommy have given me their views and know how I feel about it. They want me to stay if it can be sorted out and I would jump at the chance as I think it will benefit me more by staying here and playing games than going back to Swindon."So let's wait and see but I would think the odds are good for another month at least and certainly Michael, who has made 6 appearances so far, has been made more than welcome as a Shrimper.He continued: "I feel a little bit at home here as I am from London originally and I already know some of the players. I have settled in really well and I feel I am part of something as we work towards getting Southend back into League One."
