Sturrock: 'You can't just keep turning it on and off whenever you want'

Southend United manager Paul Sturrock says Southend need to make an impression at the start of games despite seeing them claim a 4-1 win over Torquay United ar Roots Hall on Saturday.

Sturrock: 'We have to make sure we play at a high tempo from the off'   All four of the Shrimpers goals on Saturday afternoo came after the interval, with Kane Ferdinand bagging a brace before Liam Dickinson and Mark Phillips completed the Torquay tonking.   Lee Mansell scored a consolation for the Gulls with the help of a clear deflection, but that was not what annoyed Blues boss Paul Sturrock at the final whistle.   Sturrock told the PA aftyer the game: "I was pleased with how we played in the second half but we need to really be playing like that right from the start of matches. If we don't start to do that then we're going to get caught out quite soon because you can't just keep turning it on and off whenever you want. We have to make sure we play at a high tempo from the off but thankfully it didn't cost us against Torquay and we were still able to get the three points."   Indeed we did, and let's hope the team take his words into Tuesday evening's away game with Barnet, and we get four goals before the break this time!   For all the League Two action from October 22nd on the i-player, go to I mte 45 sec for the Shrimpers goals including that wonderful Ferdy second and the views of Luggy, (54mts. if you want to watch the Beeb Dons feature, three minutes later for some very creepy Crawley fans, and their goals sadly, but another for Jack Midford.): http://www.bbc.co.uk   For the full S24 report on Shrimpers v Gulls, with player markings: www.southendunited-mad.co.uk   A local view: www.torquayunited.com   Stats from the game: http://news.bbc.co.uk   Listen with managers: http://news.bbc.co.uk   Post match views from Luggy and lads: www.southendunited-mad.co.uk   Ling licks wounds: www.southendunited-mad.co.uk   Fixtures   League Two   Tuesday, October 25th; (all kick-offs 19.45): Barnet v Southend, Bristol Rovers v Port Vale, Cheltenham v Crewe, Crawley Town v Dag & Red, Macclesfield v Bradford, Morecambe v Rotherham, Northampton v Hereford, Oxford Utd v Plymouth, Shrewsbury v Accrington Stanley, Swindon v Gillingham, Torquay v AFC Wimbledon.   Saturday, October 29th; (all kick-offs 15.00): Aldershot v Crewe, Barnet v Burton Albion, Bristol Rovers v Dag & Red, Cheltenham v Plymouth, Crawley Town v Accrington Stanley, Macclesfield v Southend, Morecambe v Gillingham, Northampton v Rotherham, Oxford Utd v Port Vale, Shrewsbury v AFC Wimbledon, Swindon v Bradford, Torquay v Hereford.
