Sturrock: 'When you have someone the size of Bilel in there it can really make a difference'

The Southend United faithful could not be happier at the moment at the strength of the squad, and when you look at who manager Paul sturrock could bring off the bench Saturday to cahnge the course of the game, again, you c

Sturrock: 'We didn’t play well and really had to churn out the result'   Five successive league wins, six adding the JPT, 15 points, top of the table, all of which we haven't done for a while, throw in Bilel scoring and not sent off and even Blues boss Paul Sturrock should be able to raise a smile over that little lot, and he is, sort of!    Come on Luggy chill, you didn't want to be cursed having been made manager of the month for September, and we won 3-1 at Gresty Road saturday afternoon!

Sturrock told www.echo-news.co.uk: “The award is sometimes the kiss of death but thankfully it wasn’t for us against Crewe. It was nice to get the award but it’s for the whole team and not just me because everyone has put a lot of hard work in to the good results we’ve been getting.”

It certainly wasn't a stroll in the park, the Railwaymen toughed it out all the way, but this Luggy team is made of the right stuff!

Sturrock said: “We didn’t play well and really had to churn out the result. We looked sluggish in midfield and Crewe dominated for quite some time in the second half. But we showed good character to get stuck in and I’m obviously very pleased to have won the game.”

It was, of course, mainly to do with the late substitutions, and when you gave a bench like that you use it, especially when two of them are Ryan 'crossing machine' Hall and, the unpredictable talent that is Bilel Mohsni!

Luggy explained: “When Bilel went on I just told him to get in to the box and he certainly did. I’ve always said he can play anywhere and I think he showed that again today. He got in good positions and 86 per cent of all goals come from crosses or set pieces so it’s important to get players in to the box when we get the ball out wide. We have the fire power now to get goals and when you have someone the size of Bilel in there it can really make a difference."
