Sturrock: We know each other well

Blair Sturrock is confident that familiarity between the recent arrivals at Southend this summer will help the new-look Blues side to gel quickly. Sturrock, son of new manager Paul, is one of a host of names to walk through the doors at Roots Hall this summer. "There have been a lot of new signings but many of us have played in the same sides before and that will certainly help," the 28-year-old striker told the Echo "I've played alongside Barry Coughlan and Peter Gilbert before and some of the other lads know each other too so that will also help with camaradie which is also very important." A thigh injury is currently preventing Sturrock from lining up alongside his new team-mates, who could soon include Peterbrough midfielder Josh Simpson. Midfielder Simpson has joined Southend on trial after being deemed surplus to requirements by Posh boss Gary Johnson and he played the second half of Wednesday's 0-0 friendly draw with Rushden.
