Sturrock: 'We certainly can't afford to go in to the game in an arrogant frame of mind'

Southend United manager Paul Sturrock believes the next three League Two games against Bristol Rovers. Cheltenham Town and Bradford City will shape their season, a campaign that so far is going rather wel!

Sturrock: 'We have away games at Aldershot & AFC Wimbledon, both aren’t that far away either'

Blues boss Paul Sturrock believes his league leading Southend side have three tough league tests over the next few weeks, with a cup tie against Oldham inbetween, starting with the Pirates who haven't started the season as well as many pundits expected.

Sturrock told www.echo-news.co.uk: "Bristol Rovers (are) a team who I really expected to be up there challenging for promotion this season. I still think they can turn things around because they have some very good players in their squad. But they will be hurting after a disappointing home defeat to Barnet last weekend. They will be wanting to put that right against us and like I keep on saying we certainly can’t afford to go in to the game in an arrogant frame of mind. We’re in good form though and we’re looking forward to the test."

Unbeaten in 15 games, 13 of them wins, yes that's decent form Luggs.

It's been helped by joint top scorer on eight goals Liam Dickinson, who tweeted earlier, 'Feel fresh n ready for ball 2day!!! Gonna try n make it 3 in 3 #PinkTape', we love that tape Liam!

And Luggy appreciates his efforts.

Sturrock said: 'I actually had a little word with Dicko before the Dagenham game last weekend and I think he’s responded very well. I’ve been pleased with his work rate and overall performance in the last couple of games and his got his rewards by scoring in both games. I thought the whole team worked hard against Preston actually and it was needed to help us see off a team who were playing in the Championship last season. I’m pleased with how everything is going at the moment but I’m experienced to realise things can change quickly in this game and we have to keep on doing what’s required to pick up points.'

Finally, Luggy wanted to take the opportunity to give all the travelling faithful a pat on the back, all 1,500 of you at the Daggers last weekend, and to remind us all that there's a couple of reasonable trips coming up!'

Sturrock concluded: 'The supporters were fantastic who went to Dagenham last Saturday and having so many people there to cheer the team on really did make a difference. I’d like to thank those fans who came along and would like to think that those same bodies will be at the away games we have coming up at Aldershot and AFC Wimbledon because both of those aren’t that far away either.'
