Sturrock waiting on duo

Southend boss Paul Sturrock will wait on the fitness of Kane Ferdinand and his son, Blair, before naming his squad for the home clash with Gillingham. The former has missed the last three games with an ankle injury, while Sturrock sat out the 2-1 defeat at Morecambe through illness. However, both could return to the Shrimpers squad to face the Gills. Midfielder Lee Sawyer is pushing for a starting role after an impressive performance off the bench at the weekend, but French defender Bilel Mohsni still faces around three weeks on the sidelines with ankle ligament damage. Winger Ryan Hall should again play despite being on bail following his conviction for a charge of affray.
