Sturrock targeting promotion push

Southend boss Paul Sturrock used the celebratory sounds of Wycombe's dressing room after the final whistle on Saturday to act as inspiration for his side next season. The Shrimpers were on the end of a 3-1 defeat at Adams Park on the final day, a result which guaranteed Wanderers third place and automatic promotion to League One. And Sturrock, after a 13th-placed finish in his debut campaign in charge of Southend, wants to experience similar elation at Roots Hall. "I stopped my team talk at the end and listened to the enthusiasm coming out of the Wycombe dressing room," he said. "I've tasted it a few times now and I'd like my players to taste it again - all we can do to achieve that is win football games." He added: "If we can get a team settled next year and add to it we can do well - we only had four players at the start of the season and it took us a long time to settle down and blend. I'm quite pleased with the performances of the players over the season."
