Not much the Blues boss could say in defence of the 3-1 home defeat by Port Vale Saturday, but the successful Valiants manager had other events on his mind as well as grabbing the points. Sturrock: 'We are not going to build a team overnight'There was no hising place for Blues boss Paul Sturrock after a horrible defeat at Roots Hall Saturday afternoon, where his hastely assembled squad did well to keep it down to just a two goal margin so out played were they all over the field of play.Luggy told www.southendunited.co.uk: "There should be more than frustration from the fans as there were players today that I don't believe should be taking their wages home."Oh no, let's not go there! He continued: "If you support a football club you expect a certain level of attitude and work rate, which I didn't see in my team today. Hopefully now people will be realistic and get a reality check, we are nowhere the standard. We have a lot of players who are here for a reason because they have come from all different clubs of varying levels but now thay are League Two players."Oh well, at least we didn't lose 7-0 to Crewe, yet!Even so Sturrock was was full of praise for Port Vale and their manager Micky Adams, though giving the Shrimpers faithful a reminder that it took the Valiants boss 18 months to get to this stage.Luggy concluded: "We are not going to build a team overnight, I thought we were further down the line than we showed today but the potential champions of this league have beaten us. They played the game the way I like to see it played and I'm going to work day and night to make sure that happens."Adams: Port Vale boss Mickey Adams was unsurprisingly a happy bunny after his side's fairly easy victory on the south east coast.Adams told www.thisisstaffordshire.co.uk: "It was a terrific performance today. I know Southend have had their troubles and they've put together a team hastily. But I thought we thoroughly deserved our win and the game should have been over by half time." And you can't argue with that! However, the Valiants manager did take the time on backtracking a touch on his reported threat to resign if any takeover of the midland club meant him losing control of any sections of the team.Adams said: "I think what I was trying to intimate was that if any investor came in and started sacking my staff then I would have a problem with that.So I don't want to hear anymore about any takeover or the politics of the club because ultimately I find it very boring. All I'm trying to do is concentrate on getting Port Vale out of this divison."
