Sturrock snatches point

Blair Sturrock came off the bench to secure a 1-1 draw for Southend after George Connelly had looked set to have grabbed a controversial winner for Stockport. The striker netted from a corner deep into the six minutes of added-on time after seeing his father Paul sent to the stands. The Blues manager was banished for his protests after Donnelly rifled home a shot from just inside the box in the 82nd minute from a Danny Rowe cross. Southend players vociferously argued that the referee's assistant Marvin Thompson had started to raise his flag for offside, with the official seemingly changing his mind. Sturrock went onto the pitch to protest against the decision and was ordered out of the dugout by referee Iain Williamson. Prior to Donnelly`s opener, the match appeared to have a goalless draw written all over it as the two sides relegated from League One last term struggled to test either goalkeeper.
