Sturrock says: 'Incredible achievement' if we win next three games

Southend United manager Paul Sturrock believes the cup clash with the Latics will signal the start of his side's hardest week of the season with a JPT semi-final v Swindon, and league game against Cheltenham after that!

Sturrock: 'The league is our main priority'   It's yet another tough week for Blues boss Paul Sturrock as his side face three of their toughest tests all season in three different competitions.

First up on Saturday the FA Cup second round tie against Oldham Athletic, followed by the two Robins of Swindon in the JPT southern semi-final next Tuesday, both of those at Roots Hall, and the League Two match where first plays third placed Cheltenham at Whaddon Road.

Sturrock told www.echo-news.co.uk: “I think you would have to say this will be our most difficult week of the season. All of the sides are in form and bubbling along nicely, while Oldham are also in the league above, so I’m expecting them all to be difficult games. If we can come out the other side of them still on top of things then it would be an incredible achievement, but we will be giving it our best shot.”

If we can keep away from suspensions and injury we might just scrape by, however there is no doubting which match Luggy wants to win most.   Sturrock said: “The league is our main priority but I would say the trip to Cheltenham will be our toughest game of the season so far. They are on an unbelievable run of results at the moment and have moved up to third in the table. They also don’t have a game when we’re playing in the JPT, so that is a concern and we don’t want to tire out our players.”

The price you pay of a successful season of course, but let's hope the squad is big enough to deal with it.
