Sturrock revels in long-awaited victory

Southend manager Paul Sturrock felt his side's 4-1 thumping of Macclesfield had been due after they ended their barren spell without a home win. The Shrimpers' last home victory was a 1-0 success against Rotherham on October 30 but their impressive recent away form and some solid performances at home had given Sturrock hope, and a brace from Bilel Mohsni and further goals from Ryan Hall and Craig Easton secured the comfortable win. "Someone was eventually going to get a hiding at Roots Hall," Sturrock said. "To be fair, Macclesfield came out and won the second half and we knew it was going to be a difficult game because of the result and our performances against them already this season. "Our confidence had been eroded at home but we have changed the system and I think that has helped because we have simplified the game and everyone knows what they have to do. "It's taken a long time to get there but we are now playing well and got the breaks, whereas it had seemed like everything was going against us."
