Southend United boss Paul Sturrock on reasons why we lost to the Chairboys but continues to talk the talk about next season and his confidence he can build a side to challenge for promotion honours. Sturrock: 'Get players to know the systems of play I want to develop at the club'However, first, the final word on last Saturday's defeat at the now newly promoted Wycombe Wanderers on the final league Saturday of the season who beat the Shrimpers 3-1, even after a 15th minute Anthony Grant strike gave them the lead. Why? Simple, Barry Corr injured; well, yes, it didn't help, but according to Blues boss Paul Sturrock the loss of son of Luggy was a blow too far, especially as it seems it was a challenge by two of his own team-mates! Sturrock spoke to www.echo-news.co.uk: "Having lost Barry Corr before the game it was a blow to then lose Blair as well. After that I thought we struggled to hold the ball up and that was a difference between the teams. The ball stuck when it went up to their forwards but it didn't when it went up to ours and it meant we had to chase the game." Still, not anything Luggy can do about last weekend now, but we do hope they're will be some, however small, financial backing for the manager to improve a squad that will need a boost if any talk of challenging for promotion honours next season is going to take place. Sturrock told BBC Essex: "I'm going to get the players to know the systems of play I want to develop at the club. I'm going to add some fresh faces as well, supporters should be confident and looking forward to it. The pleasing thing for us is that the team came together at some time in the season. To finish 13th is a bit disappointing for me because I do believe we're a better team than where we finished. When you consider how we played in the first 10-15 games, it meant we were doing catch-up the whole season." And of course S24 will be backing him all the way, as he's not that far off the mark, then again Luggy has made pledges before!:www.thisisdevon.co.uk/news/FIGHTING/article-1372315-detail/article.htmlSturrock continues to talk the talk:www.southendunited-mad.co.uk/news/tmnw/sturrock_targeting_promotion_push_only_started_with_four_players_took_a_long_time_to_settle_down_676647/index.shtmlHighlights from the weekend game:www.southendunited-mad.co.uk/news/tmnw/early_grant_goal_cant_halt_wycombe_wanderers_promotion_party_676720/index.shtmlEnjoy the summer!
