Southend United mamager Paul Sturrock appreciates his depleted side have it all to do against the Railwaymen Tuesday to come away with the result they need to keep any play-off hopes alive. Sturrock: 'With no news of any loan signings coming in this week to boost a depleted Shrimpers squad Blues boss Paul Sturrock has to rely on who is left standing, and a youth or two, to take to Gresty Road for Tuesday evening's League Two clash against Crewe Alexandra. And Luggy is still hoping that the play-offs, now seven points away, are still a possibility after a run of just two wins in the last eight games including 2-1 defeats in our last two away from Roots Hall.S24 reckons eight wins as a minimum from the last 11 matches, so thvictory in one of our two games in hand, Accrington away on Tuesday, April 5th is the other, is sort of, well, a must.Sturrock told www.southendunited.co.uk: "It's a big game tonight. If we don't win and results go against us then the play-offs could seem a long way away. But we are all focusing on trying to get the three points and giving ourselves a chance. We won't give up while it's still a mathematically possible to catch the seventh placed side but we need to start winning games again."We can all hope Luggy, there's no crime in that, but the realists amongst us can see a tired, and sometimes tacticly confused team, who have given their all and you, and them, have nothing to be ashamed about. Many of the faithful would have accepte third from bottom after the summer we had to put up with, 2-0 defeat in the friendly at Dartford anyone?Along with that we have to face a Crewe side three days after a confidence boosting 2-0 win over leaders Chesterfield, not bad, hopefully they're knackered as well!Sturrock continued: "Of course Crewe are also hoping to close the gap on the play-offs themselves. they had a great result at the weeken against Chesterfield and anyone who can beat the top of the table side are no walkovers. We've got a few injury problems so will have to shuffle the pack a little which is frustrating. But everyone knows their jobs and fngers crossed we can get the right result."And, without left-back Peter Gilbert and skipper Craig Easton, we wish you the best of luck.A tough night in prospect, let's hope the lads can raise themselves off the floor once again and pull off a surprise, they've been doing it on and off all season, especially away from south-east Essex.
