Sturrock: 'I only want things to improve for Plymouth Argyle after Saturday'

16 September 2011 10:04
Ever the pragnamist, Southend United manager Paul Sturrock has great affection for his former club and wants to see them reach calmer waters, but after his new team beats them at the weekend! Sturrock: 'It was a successful time too so I enjoyed it there'   Blues boss Paul Sturrock ran team affairs at Home Park for six years spread over two terms, and though he's upset by their current plight that wont get in the way of making sure his side grab three points against the Pilgrims at Roots Hall saturday afternoon.   Sturrock told www.echo-news.co.uk: "I have great affection for Plymouth and I have a real affiliation with them too so what’s happening there now has really saddened me. I had six good years with them and you just don’t forget that when you leave. It was a successful time too so I enjoyed it there and it’s terrible what’s happened there recently. I pray the club can sort itself out and that it can be bought by people who care about the football side of things and very quickly too. But I only want things to improve for them after tomorrow’s game and definitely not before it.”   Go Luggy, never one to let sympathy get in the way of a result!     The waiting continues: www.southendunited-mad.co.uk    No progress for Plymouth: www.southendunited-mad.co.uk    Deal still hopeful: www.teamtalk.com    No pay today: www.teamtalk.com    The Luggy Files   Personal information Full name Paul Whitehead Sturrock Date of birth 10 October 1956 (1956-10-10) (age 54) Place of birth Ellon, Aberdeenshire, Scotland Height 5 ft 8 in (1.73 m) Playing position Striker Club information Current club Southend United Youth career   Bankfoot Athletic Senior career* Years Team Apps† (Gls)† 1974–1989 Dundee United 385 (109) National team 1977–1982 Scotland under-21 9 (0) 1981–1987 Scotland 20 (3) Teams managed 1993–1998 St. Johnstone 1998–2000 Dundee United 2000–2004 Plymouth Argyle 2004 Southampton 2004–2006 Sheffield Wednesday 2006–2007 Swindon Town 2007–2009 Plymouth Argyle 2010– Southend United * Senior club appearances and goals counted for the domestic league only.† Appearances (Goals).   (Manager info supplied by Wikipedia, for the full article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Sturrock)
