Sturrock: 'Heard Players Talking About Ticket Allocations For Liverpool, Focus Should Be Swindon'

For Southend United manager Paul Sturrock there's only one cup competition he wants to talk about at the moment, and that's the JPT regional semi-final being played Tuesday evening.

Sturrock: 'We’ve already lost to them once this season', Don't mention the 'L' word!

If it's a trip to north-west London in the springtime you want, then there's more chance in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy than the FA Cup, as the Shrimpers get ready to face the Robins of Wiltshire tonight at Roots Hall, the Gloucester version are on Saturday, in the southern section semi-final of the lower leagues knock-out competition.

Though if we do beat Oldham next week that tie away at Liverpool........doh!   Blues boss Paul Sturrock told www.echo-news.co.uk: “The players need to appreciate of the fact that there’s a lot of hard work to be done before we can start to think about Wembley or Liverpool and most important of all promotion. Swindon are a very good team and they’re on an excellent run of form themselves.

They’ve had some very good results away from home and will fancy their chances against us. We’ve already lost to them once this season and we will need to work hard and play well if we are to get the victory tonight.”

And, of course, the canny Scotsman is making sure the players are fully focused on one game at a time, as they say.   Sturrock said: “I heard the players talking about ticket allocations for the Liverpool game and I had to stamp down on that right away. Oldham will be a very difficult place to go and nobody should be thinking about Liverpool at all yet. In fact everyone should be thinking about Swindon as that’s our next game and it’s a big one too because there’s the chance of us getting closer to a Wembley final.”

Luggy will be facing one of his former clubs in Swindon Town who he joined in October 2006 taking them to promotion to League One before rejoining Plymouth Argyle less than a year later.
