Sturrock getting stuck in

New Southend boss Paul Sturrock is ready to start delving into the transfer market after being appointed on a three-year deal. The former Plymouth boss replaces Steve Tilson, whose six-year spell in charge of the Shrimpers ended when he was placed on gardening leave on Sunday. "I think starting now we'll be on the phone to a lot of managers and a lot of agents attempting to bring the players in we think are going to benefit the football club," Sturrock told Blues Player. "There's no point in bringing players that get you out of this league and then having to revamp the squad again the following season. "We're going to take our time and make sure we get the right pedigree, the right type of player that can handle the league above us." Elsewhere, Crystal Palace boss George Burley has confirmed Adam Barrett, who left Southend on a free transfer last month, is set to join the Championship club.
