Sturrock enjoys spot of luck

Southend manager Paul Sturrock was pleased to see his side ride their luck to beat promotion-chasing Stevenage 1-0 at Roots Hall. The Shrimpers claimed the points when Barry Corr latched onto Ryan Hall's cross and blasted it home from 12 yards for his 20th goal of the season. Boro had Peter Winn sent off for a foul on Sean Clohessy and missed a penalty through John Mousinho as their eight-game unbeaten run came to an end. Sturrock said: "They are a form team and very difficult opponents, so I'm glad we sneaked it in the end. But if their penalty had gone in it could have been a different story. "When they went down to 10 men they played more like 12 and made it hard for us. But I think the triple substitution we made brought us back to life again and it was fantastic for Barry to get his 20th goal of the season. "The red card was a forward's tackle similar to what I would have done. If he (Winn) had been braver he would have gone in with his head but he had to go for a challenge like that."
