Sturrock delight at win

Southend boss Paul Sturrock could scarcely conceal his delight following his side's 3-2 extra-time win over Championship side Bristol City in the first round of the Carling Cup. Matthew Paterson struck in the 104th minute after the Roots Hall club had twice come for a goal down to level the score after 90 minutes. Earlier, a Paterson penalty cancelled out Jamie McAllister's opener before Ivan Sproule looked like he'd won it for City only for Barry Corr to score in the 88th minute to force the game into extra time. Sturrock said: "It was a great squad performance. Bristol City started well but we did brilliantly to come back twice and get the win. "The penalty got us back in it and we kept our shape well after that to get through. "It's also pleasing to see Matt Paterson score twice and for Barry Corr to also get off the mark."
