Sturrock: 'Definitely a case of two points dropped'; Lee: 'Result stopped rot': Northampton Town

Both manager and assistant boss of Southend United and Northampton Town had their say after they shared the points on the Essex coast Saturday afternoon. Sturrock: 'It was a healthy performance but clean sheets win games' It must have felt like a defeat for Blues boss Paul Sturrock as the whistle blew on the 2-2 draw between Shrimpers and Cobblers at Roots Hall. Sturrock told the Press Association: "I'm bitterly disappointed that we have not won the game having been 2-0 up. We lost concentration for the first goal and my players have not done the jobs they were asked to do. The first goal changed the momentum of the game and then we conceded a stupid second goal before creating chances we should have done better with. It's definitely a case of two points dropped but it's important to remember that we have not lost the game. It was a healthy performance but clean sheets win games." Indeed they do, and we thought it would be the attack that would let us down, funny game this footy. Lee: 'Sometimes you can play with freedom because you have nothing to fear' Cobblers assistant boss David Lee, who was in charge of his team after manager Gary Johnson fell ill before the game, was obviously upbeat in the way his team, who came into the match on the back of five successive losses, ended up grabbing a point. Lee told www.ntfc.co.uk: "We showed a lot of character to come from 2-0 down and this result could be a turning point for us. when we went 2-0 down it was important we got a goal back quickly and we scored two excellent goals. At 2-0 down, (blimey David we get it, you were two down!), sometimes you can play with that freedom because you have nothing to fear and when I spoke to Bayo afterwards he said that if it had been 1-0 he might not have had the shot when he scored." Really, wish he hadn't! Anyway, David continued with the 'our boys are back' theme. Lee said: "We showed a lot of resilience today and even at 2-2 we wanted to go on  and win the game. We haven't had a lot of luck this season but maybe we had a little bit today and hopefully we can now push on. The lads fought for the cause today and every single one of them was excellent. They showed tremendous character and that's what I want to see from them. The result stopped the rot." Well it certainly did that, but at the end of the day it was still just a point, whether the Cobblers can truly go on from here and make a real promotion push, and let's face it there's still 120-odd points out there to play for, we will have a much better idea where both sides stand when we play each other again at Sixfields on January 14th next year.       Lee concluded:
