Sturrock: 'Could do with the game being a couple of days away; Yates: 'It won't be easy'

Both managers had their say before the League Two clash between Southend United and Cheltenham Bank Holiday Monday afternoon, following different results only two days earlier. Sturrock:Blues boss Paul Sturrock has praised his side for their recent back-to-back 2-0 wins on the road, the first against Monday's opponents Cheltenham Town, the next against Oxford United Saturday afternoon, and looks to improve on the Shrimpers present 12th place in League Two.Sturrock told www.southendunited.co.uk: "It is pleasing that in our last two games that some players are now starting to listen and if we play simply with organisation then we have some good players who can do well. Earlier in the season we didn't know each other and now we are playing with a desire to win for each other." He is still concerned with the injury situation at the club, that could see new signing make his debut while Peter Gilbert should return at left-back, however influential players Bilel Mohsni and Anthony Grant should be missing again.Luggy continued: "I could do with the Cheltenham game being a couple of days further away as Barry Corr has the flu and a few others are showing symptoms of it. I would be loathed to make any changes though as everyone has done so well today (Saturday)."Yates:Meanwhile, Robins boss Mark Yates felt his side had played well enough in 2-1 home defeat to Wycombe Wanderers that keeps them out of the play-off zone which they could climb into with victory at Roots Hall.Yates told www.ctfc.com: "I thought we were excellent Saturday and as good as we were Tuesday but we just didn't take our chances. It didn't go for us and we perhaps went a little soft for a ten minute period in the second half and, to be fair to Wycombe, they stepped it up."Warnings for the Blues then when we face the Chairboys evenually in February.Anyway, unlike Luggy with his new signing and more on the way Yates wants to dampen any transfer speculation at Whaddon Road, where they are extending the loan of Shaun Jeffries but Robin Shroot has gone back to parent club Birmingham City.Yates continued: "I don't comment on speculation on my players in this transfer window. I have a good squad of players here and I want to keep them all. I want to be extending contracts but we'll do it and when it is right for the club and player. We were the better team for periods Saturday but they did a professional job on us by scoring a couple of breakaway goals. We missed a lot of chances and it's disappointing but we get ready to go again on Monday. It won't be easy but we'll be fully prepared."
