Sturrock "absolutely gutted" after loss

Southend boss Paul Sturrock was inconsolable following the 2-1 loss to Chesterfield. Scott Boden's last-gasp strike gave the Spireites the win though it was a sucker-punch for Southend, who had dominated large periods of the second half. Danny Whitaker had put Chesterfield in front in the 27th minute with a penalty after Jack Lester was fouled, though Anthony Grant looked to have secured a point for the Shrimpers 10 minutes later. Sturrock said: "I'm absolutely gutted. Football kicks you in the teeth at times. For 85 minutes we were fantastic but we lost our way in those last five or six minutes. "With hindsight the substitutions were perhaps made at the wrong time. It disrupted the team. However if I was able to surmise what's going to happen then football management would be easy. "We created plenty of chances. The result was a bitter pill to swallow but it shows what happens if you don't take your chances."
