Strikers will click says Sturrock: 'Need to start taking chances that are being created' Port Vale

Southend United boss Paul Sturrock is obviously upset that striker Barry Corr is out injured but expects fellow frontmen Neil Harris and Liam Dickinson to start doing the business soon enough, and Saturday away to Port Vale would be a good place to start. Sturrock: 'New partnerships take time to click in to place' Blues boss Paul Sturrock accepted a lot of the criticism aimed at him after the 1-0 home defeat to Burton Albion last Saturday: "I got the system wrong in the first half and I hold my hands up to that. We changed things around in the second half and we definitely started to look like a much better team. But the story of our season so far has been not taking our chances and it killed us again. We can't afford to keep on doing it and I'm very disappointed and frustrated about the defeat. If we had taken one of the opportunities then I think we would've gone on to win the game."    However, the continued loss of last season's top scorer Barry Corr, injury update in the article below, is a huge blow, but one he hopes will be covered by two of his summer signings soon enough.   Strurrock told www.echo-news.co.uk: “Barry scored 21 goals last year so of course any team is going to miss someone like that. However we’re confident that things can click in to place for Neil Harris and Liam Dickinson. New partnerships take time to click in to place and hopefully it won’t be long until they’re both getting goals regularly because we do need to start taking more of the chances that are being created.”   And on the day of son of Luggy's 30th birthday, another striker in Blair, who might get a start at Vale Park if the injury situation at Roots Hall gets any worse, the former Millwall scoring legend that was Neil Harris is also aware that we haven't seen the best of him yet.   Harris told www.echo-news.co.uk: "Nobody wants to score more than me and, although how the team does is far more important, I do want my first goal to come sooner rather than later. I just need that little bit of luck but often the first goal is the hardest one to get. I will be delighted when it finally comes and as will my family as the Harris household has been a bit depressed in the last few days."   So let's cheer them all up at the weekend Bomber!   Neil by Mouth: http://www.echo-news.co.uk
