Still on Shrimpers: 'When you are hit like that you have to hold your hands up and accept it'

Dagenham & Redbridge manager John Still lamented his team not being able to pick up any points after their 3-2 home loss to league leaders Southend United.

Still: 'I'm delighted with our performance against a big, strong powerful side' Daggers boss John Still is certainly up against it after his eighth successive league defeat which some would say was undeserved, however he was gracious enough to his opponents after their defeat to the Shrimpers by the odd goal in five at the Victoria Road stadium Saturday. Still told www.daggers.co.uk: "They took their goals well and when you are hit like that you have to hold your hands up and accept it."   However, we did get the 'big, strong, powerful' quote, not sure what they expect, you're not going to get out of this crap division with a team of midgets! Still said: "I'm delighted with our performance against a big, strong powerful side. I thought all round we were very competitive and our keeper hasn't had to make a save in the second half against a top team. We were more like the old Daggers as we coped with it well in an encouraging display." It certainly was, the Ferdy brace & Daniels double save at the end making sure all the points returned with the team to south-east Essex. And the former Barnet boss must have been happy with loanee debutants Cristian Montano and the wonderfully named Mickey Spillaine, the teenage Hamster Montano, a hero in his native Columbo apparantly, scoring the first and nearly grabbing a third equaliser with a close range header starting the Saint Luke herorics. He concluded: "I had to shake things up and bring in new faces because we kept waiting for injured players to return, and that did not happen. We've got some catching up to do, so let's hope this is a turning point for us."
