Stadium vital to Southend success

The Shrimpers were given full planning permission last summer to build their new 22,000 capacity stadium and Martin is confident the new plans could bring more success for the club. The stadium at Fossetts Farm, which the club hope could be ready for the start of the 2010/11 season, would assist the club's finances and Martin said: "If you subscribe to the view that there is a direct relationship between success in football and financial investment then it probably follows that through the new stadium plans, which will provide more funds for the club, there are greater prospects in advancing through the League into the Championship. "Secondly once in the Championship, and then having the increased benefit of still further funds, this will be self perpetuating and a greater chance of sustaining a position in the higher league - everything else being equal."
