Southend United manager Steve Tilson has yet to open contract talks with the club. Scott Spencer: 'I have really enjoyed being with Southend'It started as gossip from a conversation at the Shrimpers Trust Awards evening but the Echo have confirmed that young Screech will stay a Shrimper for a further year. Scott has scored a healthy four goals in five starts for United last season after joining during the January transfer window from Rochdale. With Spencer told www.southendunited.co.uk back in May: "I will be staying here next season. It's a year extension so it's just a formality really and it's all close to being done, which is good news because I have really enjoyed being with Southend and I'm happy to be here." His all-action style could be well suited to League Two where defenders will certainly be slower, and we should see the 20-year-old in time for the July friendlies as his ankle injury picked up at Gillingham at the end of last season would have cleared up by then.Blues boss Steve Tilson told www.echo-news.co.uk: "We're obviously pleased that Scott will still be with us for next season.Tilson: 'I am still waiting for the club to get back to me'Talking of Tilly, the Echo added that he has yet to be offered a new contract with only a year left on his remaining deal. Tilly said to the local paper: "I am still waiting for the club to get back to me with an offer of a new contract."Something of chairman Ron Martin promised, stop laughing, last month, along with a few other things.Uncle Ron is recovering from an operation, again stop laughing, and when he feels fit enough, will have to deal with the Tilly extention, along with a players revolt, and the fact we ould be starting those pre-season games with half a side of 18 year olds!Of course, actually telling the faithful what's going on would be nice, but in your own time Ron.
