Brown pondering changes

Phil Brown will contemplate freshening up his Southend side for the visit of Portsmouth on New Year's Day.

The Shrimpers boss was disappointed with Sunday's 1-1 draw at Accrington and is sure to be considering changes for what is the Essex club's fourth game in 13 days.

The likes of Barry Corr, Freddy Eastwood, Marc Laid and Conor Clifford will be pushing for recalls, while no new injury or suspension concerns are expected.

Long-term absentee Julian Bennett (knee) remains on the sidelines as Southend, with just one defeat in their last 11, look to get back to winning ways.

Danny East is Portsmouth's latest injury worry.

The defender, who only recently overcame a neck injury to return to the side, limped off towards the end of Sunday's goalless draw with Northampton and was replaced by Bondz N'Gala.

East is set to join Simon Ferry, Shaun Cooper (both hamstring), Andy Barcham (thigh) and Tom Craddock (knee) on the sidelines.

Goalkeeper Trevor Carson plays the last game of his current loan spell from Bury.
