Nile Ranger missing for Southend's clash with Bristol Rovers

Southend will be without forward Nile Ranger for the visit of Bristol Rovers because of an ankle problem.

Ranger signed from Blackpool in the summer and had just returned from a groin problem to make his debut in the 3-0 win at Sheffield United on Tuesday night, but was forced off after only 24 minutes with a fresh injury which is expected to sideline him for up to six more weeks.

Defender David Mooney also hobbled off late on at Bramall Lane with a hamstring problem, but should be fit.

Midfielder Michael Timlin (hamstring) has stepped up his rehabilitation, but Anthony Wordsworth faces another couple of weeks out following an operation on his hamstring problem.

Rovers boss Darrell Clarke could make more changes for the Pirates' fourth game in nine days.

Clarke made five changes for Wednesday's 2-1 home defeat to Bolton and another quick turnaround means he is likely to rotate again.

Cristian Montano, Billy Bodin, Jermaine Easter and Rory Gaffney are among those pushing hard for starting spots.

Mark McChrystal could return to the squad, but midfielders Liam Lawrence and Lee Mansell have not figured this season and are again expected to be absent through injury.
