Duo eyeing Shrimpers starts

Joe Pigott and David Worrall are pushing to start for Southend against Brighton in the Capital One Cup.

Striker Pigott, who scored Southend's last-gasp equaliser in the play-off final against Wycombe last season, is back at Roots Hall on loan from Charlton and made a late cameo as a sub in Saturday's 1-1 draw at Fleetwood.

Winger Worrall also climbed off the bench at the weekend and his goal six minutes from time earned the Shrimpers a point.

Boss Phil Brown has a fully-fit squad to choose from and is set to stick with Daniel Bentley in goal despite interest from QPR.

Seagulls manager Chris Hughton is expected to make changes which could mean full debuts for goalkeeper Niki Maenpaa and defender Liam Rosenior.

But veteran striker Bobby Zamora, back with the club after joining on a free transfer last week, is unlikely to feature as he continues to build up his match fitness.

Fellow summer signing Jack Harper is out with an ankle problem and midfielder Andrew Crofts is closing in on a return from a long-term knee injury.

Inigo Calderon, Jake Forster-Caskey, Rohan Ince and Chris O'Grady will be in contention after starting Friday night's 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest on the bench..
