Southend United's Sturrock speaks to the Moose: 'We only want people who want to be here'

15 July 2010 10:31
New Blues boss Paul Sturrock is looking to have a chat with his remaining squad, including out of contract Franck Moussa, about their futures at the club. Well, that shouldn't take long! Sturrock: 'I need to know how relegation has affected them'Another day, another headline from the official site telling us new manager Paul Sturrock's 'Door is Open'.Seeing as there are only around eight contracted players he should clear that before lunch and get back to seeing how Tiger's doing at the Open.Along with the 'maybe we'll have some new players for Dartford' exclusive yesterday the club are doing their best to hide the fact that we are still in a financial mess that will need more than articles like this to calm down the faithful.Of course, it's good their saying something, but until we see that chairman Ron Martin has actually paid some bills, convinces us he is not going under at any minute, (could we get a Bob Maxwell type story from the seas off Crete very soon?!), and the headline reads 'Transfer Embargo Lifted Sturrock Signs Contract, with a few players join for real where they can play on August 7 against Stockport, the doubts remain.A minus ten, twenty, thirty point start will be better than no club at all, and will even Sainsbury's shareholders say enough is enough at some point, £7million or not? Anyway, the problem remains midfielder Franck Moussa and trying to get him to sign a new contract, which could be difficult in the present circumstances.Sturrock told www.southendunited.co.uk: "I need to talk to players and I have told them my office door is open to them today, so I'm expecting them to come and see me. I want to know their thoughts and what they want to do. I need to know how relegation and the ongoing situation has affected them because we only want people here who want to be here."Fair enough Paul, but as the 'ongoing situation' means possibily not being paid we wish you all the best.
