Southend United's Paul Sturrock happy after Wolverhampton Wanderers and before Bradford City

Blues boss Paul Sturrock couldn't have been more pleased with his two debutants at Molineux last night, let's hope they can keep going for the trip to Bradford, only two days away! Sturrock: 'Starting to see the training ground work coming through on the pitch' After being lucky losing by just 3-1 against Port Vale last weekend, old Luggs must have been concerned with two games in four days, especially one against Premier League opposititon in Wolverhampton Wanderers. As it was, a bit of a mess around with the team, especially in defence, including the Shrimpers debut of left back Peter Gilbert, which allowed the experienced Chris Barker to partner the commanding French Tunisian Bilel Mohsni on his first game, nearly pulled off a shock result.Mohsni, who looked pretty good, should have scored, failing with a header from a corner similar to the one he grabbed in pre-season at Eastbourne, a slight difference in surroundings and the number of fans in the crowd of course!Sturrock himself told www.southendunited.co.uk: "I thought Peter Gilbert was excellent and then of course there was Bilel who could give you a heart attack one moment and is then fantstic the next. I think he is going to be a special player for us, he wins everything. He has never played in front of this sort of crowd before and I was worried about him, but I think he could have a long term future at this football club." Great stuff, but boring old League Two is back, and only three days away with a long trip to Spud Taylor's Bradford City, not an easy game when you desperatly need some points, and have just played 122 minutes against a Premiership club away from home! The Blues boss continued: "A lot of our squad has been half fit so 120 minutes of football will do them the world of good. The only worry I have is that Friday is going to come a bit early for us so we are going to wrap them up in cotton wool. I am starting to see the work we are putting in on the training ground coming through on the pitch." We will see Luggy old chap, we will see.
