Blues centre-back Mark Phillips has been out for five games now but is hoping he should be back in contention for a first team place very soon. Phillips:The former Brentford defender Mark Phillips has been out for a couple of weeks now with a hamstring injury but is looking forward to returning to the thoughts of manager Paul Sturrock.Phillips told www.southendunited.co.uk: "I've stepped things up now and I'm sprinting again. I've been kicking the ball long distances too and the physio has told me we aren't too far off now which is obviously good news."When he does regain full fitness Mark will be hoping that he has not lost too much ground in the fight for one of the two centre-back positions currently being held, reasonably well, by Chris Barker and Bilel Mohsni.Phillips continued: "Getting injured when I did was a bit annoying to say the least. I thought I had played well in the two games I had and was looking to cement my place in the team. I'll just have to make sure I make the most of the next opportunity which comes my way when I get over my injury."
