Blues striker Blair Sturrock shocked Millers boss Ronnie Moore with his 'absolutely unbelievable' winning goal on Saturday, not so says the son of Luggy, it was all in the angle! Sturrock: Shrimpers striker Blair Sturrock was not S24's favourite player, a touch of nepotisim insisted there was nothing fortunate about the goal which secured Southend United a 1-0 win over Rotherham United at Roots Hall on Saturday. Millers boss Ronnie Moore labelled Sturrock's early effort as "absolutely unbelievable" and claimed the ball had entered the back of the net via his ear or shoulder. But Sturrock was adamant he knew exactly what he was doing. "I couldn't head it because the angle of the ball would've taken it out of the park, so I had to go for the ball with my chest and angle it in," said the 29-year-old. "I've done it before in training as well, so I guess you could say it's becoming a trademark of mine, but it was great to see it go in and for us to get the three points. "It was also good for me to score because I needed it and it's certainly boosted my confidence." Sturrock's goal came after just five minutes and was enough to end a run of three successive defeats for his side. The victory pushed Blues up to 15th in the League Two table and the striker was thrilled to get Southend back on track. "You do feel the pressure and feel down even after losing just one game, so it was imperative we won this," said Sturrock. "We were unfortunate to have lost the three games in a row, but this was a good win as Rotherham are a strong side who are right up towards the top of the table, so we're all very happy."
