Southend United v Wycombe Wanderers: What to do without Bilel Mohsni?

15 February 2011 10:25
Southend United's influential centre-back Bilel Mohsni is the only confirmed absentee from the first team squad for this evening's game against Wycombe Wanderers at Roots Hall, who should replace him? Could Kyle Ferdinand be the answer at centre-back?With star defender Bilel Mohsni out for up to six weeks with an ankle injury Blues boss Paul Sturrock will have to decide who replaces the French Tunisian at centre-half.The obvious choice is ether veteran Graham Coughlan or fit again Mark Phillips, but how about Irish Under-19 lad Kane Ferdinand, who looked as assured as he does playing in front of the back four when he took over from the injured Bilel half way through the second half of the defeat against Shrewsbury last time out? That would free up a place in midfield for the exciting Lee Sawyer who could well be the spark for a more lively performace for the Shrimpers that Luggy was looking for.Captain Craig Easton could drop back a touch to fill a more defensive role.A tough ask for Kane, before Saturday's 1-0 defeat at Bradford City the Chairboys had looked to gave a number of options in attack as they rose to third place in the League, but one we believe he would be capable of performing well enough.Sawyer should start, as could young Kyle Asante, now that would be a risk!EEB's possible Southend starting line-up: Evans, Clohessy, Ferdinand, Barker, Gilbert, Sawyer, Grant, Easton, Hall, Sturrock, Asante. Subs: Morris, Coughlan, Phillips, Comminges, Soares, Corr, Crawford. The legendary S24 Preview here:www.southendunited-mad.co.uk/roll/ed61/southend_united_v_wycombe_wanderers_646142/index.shtmlRecent Wycombe results and reports here:www.wycombewanderers.co.uk/page/Fixtures/0,,10430,00.html
