Southend United v Chesterfield: 'We are monitoring Mohsni situation closely'

1 BILEL Mohsni is again doubtful for tomorrow's clash with Chesterfield. The defender has missed Blues' last two matches with an ankle injury. And he could also miss out on facing the Spireites. "We will be making another late decision on Bilel's fitness to give him enough time as possible for him to be fit," confirmed Southend United manager Paul Sturrock. "We're not sure at this stage whether or not he will be able to play but we are monitoring the situation closely." Sturrock has been hit by a number of injuries and suspensions to his defenders this season and was therefore delighted to see both Mark Phillips and Peter Gilbert return to action during Wednesday night's Essex Senior Cup win over Chelmsford City. Phillips played 65 minutes against the Clarets after recovering from a hernia operation, while Gilbert lasted the full 120 minutes on his come-back from a three game ban which eventually saw him sidelined for six weeks because of a number of postponements. "Gilbert played the whole game and that has given me something to think about," said Sturrock who has played Johnny Herd at left-back for the last three matches. "It was good to see Phillips back too and hopefully this can be the end of his injury problems as he's hardly kicked a ball for us this season." Phillips is not yet ready for a first team return but Anthony Grant looks certain to start in the centre of the park tomorrow at the expense of Kane Ferdinand. Sturrock is also weighing up whether to start with new signing Miguel Comminges.
