Southend United Strike Back: 'We're in negotations with several players' including a keeper!

After the battering taken by the club as yet another winding-up order is adjourned team boss Paul Sturrock has been dragged out to push the party line and confirm that new faces could be seen at Dartford on Friday. Hoping to check out some trailists in the Dartford friendly FridayWell, you didn't expect a club run by Ron Martin to just lie back and take the criticism rightly thrown at it after another visit to the High Court today was adjourned until August 14th to await the verdict given by the big one on Monday, August 2nd and the re-match with Her Majesty's Taxman. With a great headline of 'New Faces at Dartford?', (answer - maybe!), the official site informs us that new boss Paul Sturrock 'hoped' to bolster the squad in the next 48 hours.Let's hope so, or we might as well call that one off as well!Sturrock told www.southendunited.co.uk: "We are working to bring in some more players over the coming days. We had a trail game last week and have spoken to one or two from that." Lewis Hunt or Osei Sankofa maybe? He continued: "We're in negotiation with several players that we would like to sign but I can't say much more than that at the moment."As he wants to keep any names to himself 'as a surprise to the fans', we'll have to wait and see, but joy, one will be a goalkeeper.Honestly lads, you do try our patience, one has to be a frigging keeper or young Daniel Bentley will be playing against Stockport on August 7th.Then again, he might still do, as we can play who we like in the friendlies but until Ron pays his bills to the PFA the transfer embargo stays, we sign nobody, and even Paul Sturrock might bugger off.
