Southend United return Alassane D'Aiaye to Crystal Palace

31 August 2011 23:54
Shrimpers striker Neil Harris confirmed speculation that loanee midfielder Alassane D'Aiaye will be returning to the Eagles before the end of his season long loan earlier this month, and now the club has to!   Alassane N'Diaye: The shortest season long loan on record? Bilel Mohsni and his runaway temper iswe know about, but the news that midfielder Alassane D'Aiaye was involved in a spat with Jamel Johnson in training was a bit of a surprise, especially the news that the player, who had looked so hapless in the team's pre-season games that he took part in, and had only been seen in any form sitting in the stand at Roots Hall since the League Two season started, was on his way back to parent club Championship Crystal Palace after less than two months into a season long loan. News that won't please Eagles boss, our former striker Dougie Freedman, who had hoped he'd saved D'Aiaye's wages until May at least. And after all that wait to hear he'd signed, remember the 48 hours! While Blues boss Paul Sturrock would surely be pleased that he's found a way out of a deal that would have kept such a poor performer at the club for a whole season, and in J P Kalala have made a far more promising signing turning out in a position that the young Frenchman was pencilled in for. However, Luggy would only say at the time he was just talking with the Frenchman, telling BBC Essex: "I'm in discussions with Alassane about his situation at this football club", but it was vice-captain Neil Harris who spilled the beans a couple of weeks ago in his Echo column. He wrote: 'And it does seem like Alassane N’Diaye, or big Dave as we call him, will be heading back to Crystal Palace which is a shame because his loan spell here hasn’t really worked out the way everyone hoped it would. I’m not too sure what’s happening with his future at the moment, but he’s a really nice guy and I hope he manages to go somewhere else and get games because it’s what he needs most." And now, on transfer deadline day, the official website has at last confirmed that we've sent him back to Selhurst Park, blimey, they took their time, negotaitions between the two stubborn Scots must have made for an interesting chat, not that we would have understood it! So it's proved to be the case that 'Big Dave' is off, S24 hopes he has better luck in the future than he found in south-east Essex.
