'Southend United has a great future to look forward to': Shrimpers faithful remain unconvinced!

04 June 2010 17:31
In the wide world of Shrimpers websites fans of Southend United FC have been commenting on the latest statement from the club, and most are more concerned about the teams future than ever. 'We are not quite out of the woods yet' is the part of the statement that rings true!So another day, another statement, and 48 hours after the latest words of wisdom, the majority of the Shrimpers faithful are full of doom and gloom. And it's hard to argue with them! The scene was set by the Shrimpers Trust who tried to cheer us up with the following on www.shrimperstrust.co.uk: The Shrimpers Trust are naturally disappointed to note the contents of the recent statement released by Southend United FC. When the Winding-Up Petition against the Football Club served by Her Majesty's Revenue & Customs was withdrawn in April, it was to be hoped that this would draw a line under the financial worries concerning the Club to a certain extent, allowing repayments to be made to creditors and payments to be made in full to all staff. The Trust are not oblivious to the financial situation concerning football in general at the current time, with many high-profile cases prevalent in the national media and the news that staff were not paid in full on time is perhaps indicative of the sport's position. We trust that they will, as claimed, be paid in full in due course. Whilst the announcement that the Club may make a small number of staff redundant following relegation to League Two will be disappointing to those directly involved, it does show that the club is cutting its cloth accordingly now we are in the fourth tier of English football and not at a higher level. Southend United's financial stability is paramount going into 2010/11. Finally, we hope that, despite the Football League transfer embargo still being in place, Steve Tilson will be able to construct a squad that is able to compete and maintain a position in League Two with a view to pushing onwards and upwards in the future. Steve, his staff and the players that remain at the club deserve our fullest support going into the new season. SARFENDMAN on www.echo-news.co.uk wrote:'Little for the fans to look forward to next season as it's "no business as usual". Blind faith is what is required to hope for at best for the club not to be relegated once again.Things really remain in crisis with a feeling of negativity continuing to hang over the club and no positive/hope talk coming out of Roots Hall.Days of Blu-tac and sellotape will have to continue but feel even these supplies are running out. We all wait for the diggers to start at Fossetts Farm for the sign of hope. Wasn't it May the last date given? It's now June and that sinking feeling grows. Sainsbury's will want to realise their part of the deal, after all they have paid up serious money into the Blues Black Hole. The taxman will also soon be knocking on the door at Roots Hall to start another years debt which we all await.'Clinton Baptiste on www.shrimperzone.com was short and to the point:What a ****ing joke. If we still cant pay our staff how the hell will we pay them in June and July when there are no match day revenues. Or indeed how will be be able to buy any players. I guess it will be a fire sale of most of the players then sticking the youth team in for next season! Conference here we come! While technician on www.theshrimpers-online.co.uk was positively sucidal:We have no tangible assets other than a dream and to be honest, given the present circumstances, I would rather have my football club over a dream any day of the week and twice on Sunday. Our relegation has been my wake up call and since we have been spoiled by success in recent years, failure is a bitter pill to swallow. We haven't learnt from the demise of many football clubs spending money they don't have to survive and the football league sponsorship deals are a fine example of financial mismanagement. We must stop spending what we don't have!!!Please don't take us to the brink of oblivion Mr.Chairman.Our own editior was sharpening his pencil but has decided not to add to the rightful concerns that has already been shown elsewhere, there's not much new that one can add. It's fairly obvious that Uncle Ron is living in his own world that does not accept criticism and could see SUFC in it's present form very close to reaching financial meltdown. The next few weeks are going to be very interesting. If we do indeed have a great future S24 will be the first to apologise, but it's hard to see it at the moment. The Club statement from earlier in the week:www.southendunited.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10444~2063712,00.htmlHave a vote on the S24 poll regarding Ron Martin and what he's doing to the club, a simple yes or no question, here:www.southendunited-mad.co.uk/polls/loadpoll.asp
