Southend have appointed Paul Sturrock as their new manager on a three-year deal.

The npower League Two club ended former manager Steve Tilson`s six-year spell in charge at Roots Hall by placing him on gardening leave on Sunday and the Shrimpers have moved quickly to appoint his successor.

Sturrock, 53, has been out of work since leaving Plymouth in April and brings former Salisbury manager Tommy Widdrington as his assistant.
