Southend all at sea

Paul Sturrock's new-look Southend went down to a disappointing 2-0 friendly defeat at Dartford. Blues manager Sturrock drafted in five new signings in time to be included in his squad, but it was Dartford who took the spoils at Prince's Park. After a goalless first half Sturrock sent on seven replacements in a bid to give all his squad game time, but Dartford looked the more threatening. Danny Harris hit the Southend post with a looping header, but in the 58th minute crossed for Ryan Hayes to convert after a swift counter-attack. Dartford doubled their lead in the 73rd minute when man-of-the-match Harris set up Adam Burchell to tap in.
