Conor McLaughlin rescues late Fleetwood point

Conor McLaughlin's last-minute header handed struggling Fleetwood Town a 2-2 draw at Southend United.

The Shrimpers seemed to be heading for all three points when goals from Adam Barrett and Jack Payne overturned Robert Grant's opener for the visitors.

But Fleetwood salvaged a share of the spoils right at the death with McLaughlin heading home from close range.

Fleetwood, who remain a point outside the relegation zone, went in front in the 53rd minute when Grant's long-range shot deceived Daniel Bentley and flew into the back of the net.

But Southend equalised in the 71st minute with captain Barrett heading home a right-wing corner from Stephen McLaughlin.

The Shrimpers completed the comeback in the 82nd minute when Gary Deegan teed up Payne who netted with a well struck effort from 18 yards.

However, Fleetwood fought back to claim a crucial point in the last minute when Amari'i Bell's left-wing cross picked out McLaughlin and the defender made no mistake with a firm header from inside the six-yard box.
