Simpson eyes Roots Hall stay

On-loan midfielder Josh Simpson has pleaded with Southend's management to sign him permanently. The Peterborough man has been playing regularly for Paul Sturrock's side, but his spell is due to expire on January 4. Simpson has two-and-a-half years left on his contract at London Road so his parent club could demand a fee for his services. "Staying at Southend is definitely a positive option for me," Simpson told the Echo. "I know the two clubs are trying to make it happen. "Southend have also spoken to my agent and I would like to stay here for longer because I've been enjoying it. "The fans have been really good to me, which I appreciate, so we will just have to wait and see what happens as a result of the talks."
