Shrimpers striker under the knife: 'Everyone hoping Barry will be back before end of the season'

23 November 2011 12:10
Southend United forward Barry Corr will have surgery on his troublesome knee injury that will keep him out for most of the season.   In happier days; but last season's 21-goal man might not be seen this season at all   Not totally unexpected news with all the reports coming out of Roots hall recently, but still sad news that the last campaign's top scorer for the Blues Barry Corr has gone undeer the knife on Tuesday for a persistant knee problem.   Though always injury prone this is unlucky for Big Baz who has had to sit in the stands the whole season while the team has been banging them in to take us clear at the top of the league, the regional semi-finals of the JPT, and, of course, the second round of the FA Cup.   The official site tells us that Barry has been working hard to make a return through rehablititation including several behind closed door games.   Sadly, as the problem flared up again, it was decioded that keyhole surgery was the best course of action to take for player and club.   Shrimpers physio Ben Clarkson told www.southendunited.co.uk: "He was back in training and even played in some behind closed door games. However, the tendon and knee gradually became sore again, past the level of soreness he was expected to work within. His knee was always supposed to be sore but the level it got to exceed what he should be working with. Unfortunately that meant the time had come where we sort further opinion."   The well rounded figure of Clarkson went on to explain the sort of time we could be looking at before we see Barry in a Shrimpers shirt once again.   He said: "There was the option to rehab for another eight weeks with no guarantees it would be successful or have an operation now which we had been trying to prevent. This unusual type of injury and is a little bit uncharted in football especially, with even the tendon specialists not having much experience dealing with it."   Blimey, sounds serious enough for me, and for the full technical stuff go here: www.southendunited.co.uk   So how long Bazza could be out for?   Clarkson concluded: "Barry's worked so hard all through the summer and the last few months. So hopefully now the mechanics of his knee will be resolved internally. That in combination with the rehab will make it more comfartable for Barry to live life and play football. Everyone is hoping that he will be back before the end of the season.   As we all do, best of luck mate.   A new striker needed, vote here:   The Corr Files   Personal information Full name Barry Corr[1] Date of birth 2 April 1985 (1985-04-02) (age 26) Place of birth Newcastle, Republic of Ireland Height 6 ft 3 in (1.91 m) Playing position Striker Club information Current club Southend United Number 10 Youth career – Leeds United Senior career* Years Team Apps† (Gls)† 2005–2007 Sheffield Wednesday 17 (0) 2006 → Bristol City (loan) 3 (0) 2007 → Swindon Town (loan) 8 (3) 2007–2009 Swindon Town 28 (7) 2009–2010 Exeter City 34 (3) 2010– Southend United 41 (18) * Senior club appearances and goals counted for the domestic league only and correct as of 09:32, 1 May 2011 (UTC).† Appearances (Goals).   (Full player info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barry_Corr)   S24 is looking to build up it's editorial team, why not join us at the Shrimpers fastest growing unofficial site with up to and over 2,000 hits a day currently this month?
