Shrimpers striker sent to Thurrock

Southend United forward Kyle Asante has joined Blue Square South side Thurrock on a one month loan deal.

Kyle Asante: His third club this season

Blues boss Paul Sturrock has been as good as his word that some of the younger players will be applying their trade elsewhere this season as Shrimpers striker Kyle Asante joins left-back Teddy Nesbitt, who got sent to Great Wakering Rovers yesterday, and signed for Thurrock on an initial one month loan.

He goes straight into the Fleet's squad for their game with Dartford Saturday afternoon.

Another product of Ricky Duncan's successful under-18 side Kyle has turned out 9 times for the Southend first eleven since making his debut as a second half sunstitute back on November 7th, 2009 at Gillingham in the FA Cup where Southend were beaten 3-0.

He has scored one goal for the club, in the 2-1 defeat at Stockport County on Saturday, March 11th.

We described it at the time: 'Then, in the 81st minute, a life-line, and Luggy's gamble pays off. Kyle Asante has been a goal machine in the reserves but little was expected in the first team but Nesbitt does well in midfield and finds Crawford who turns inside to slot a lovely pass to the young Shrimpers striker who finishes calmly from inside the box finding the bottom left hand corner.'

Kyle has yet to play a part in the present campaign and has already had loan spells with Concord Rangers and Canvey Island since the start of the season making his chances of breaking into Luggy's first team plans unlikely.
