Southend United top scorer Barry Corr is hoping to break the 20 goal barrier for the first time in his career when his side take on promotion chasing Stevenage Good Friday afternoon. Corr: 'I want to get put out of my misery as quickly as I can'Shrimpers striker Barry Corr scored his 19th goal of the season during the 4-0 hammering of hapless Bradford City, and not surprisingly wouldn't ming grabbing his 20th against paly-off placed Stevenage Good Friday afternoon at Roots Hall, kick-off 15.00.Corr told Blues World: "I set myself a target of 20 goals at the start of the season and it would be great to get the one I need to get there against Stevenage. There isn't too much difference between 19 and 20 but there is for me and I want to get put out of my misery as quickly as I can. It's been a good season for me whatever happens but I would love to get at least one more goal and I hope that can come today." It has to be said Big Baz has been goal scoring revelation since being one of Blue boss Paul Sturrock's 17 summer signings, bringing him to the attention of several clubs including Tranmere Rovers in League One.Our own editor asked back in August: 'Can you honestly see him scoring 20 goals?'Well, he does look lumbersome and lazy at times, that's when he's not injured, and in the previous five years has just found the old onion bag 17 goals times, with his best season with former club Exeter City bringing just six goals, blimey he was even sent off against us when we lost 1-0 down there a couple of years ago. However, Barry reckons he's never been fitter, and takes time out to thank the talented wideboy who has weighed in with 17-odd assists this term, many helping the tall Irishman. Corr continued: "I've never really been able to stay fit for this long before and that's obviously made a big difference for me. I have had times of the season when I've been struggling with injury but nothing like I've been hit with in the past and that's been pleasing for me. I've also been helped by my team-mates because they've been getting balls in to the box and that's what I've thrive on. I'm not the type of player who is going to beat four or five men and score and I rely on good service. I've had that this year, particularly from Ryan Hall, and I'm pleased with how it's gone." Corr did grab the equaliser after coming off the subs bench against the Boro in the 1-1 draw back in November and knows they are in for a tough teat while expecting his side to be up for the challenge. He concluded: "Stevenage are on a great run and are five points below the top three so it's still possible for them to avoid the play-offs. They are a well organised and physical team who have done well after coming up. However, we're certainly not thinking about our summer holidays just yet and we want to show that we're also a good side." And the faithful will be hoping so too basking in the spring sunshine this glorious afternoon. The full S24 Preview:www.southendunited-mad.co.uk/roll/ed61/southend_united_v_stevenage_670361/index.shtmlHave your say on whether you want more or less Friday night footy:www.southendunited-mad.co.uk/interactive/voting_polls.asp
