Shrimpers start with Hereford at home

Southend United will face the Bulls of Hereford United at Roots Hall on the opening Saturday of the League Two season. The ninth consequtive campaign the Shrimpers have begun the new term in south-east Essex!   v The Bulls are back at Roots Hall on Saturday, August 6th; kick-off 15.00 It could be worse, not that we'd expect 4-0 again, and at least for those travelling from Herefordshire it's on a Saturday this time! Yes, the Bulls of Hereford will kick-off the season for the Shrimpers at, where else, Roots Hall, that 2-2 draw at Hull City that opened the 2002-03 season seems a long, long time ago, probably because it is! A long trip to play-off semi-finalists Accrington Stanley follows the next Saturday, followed by newcomers and League Two championship favourites Crawley Town on the Tuesday. Nice. The Christmas holiday fixtures are Aldershot away on Boxing Day, I'll take that, while the other new boys AFC Wimbledon will be visited on New Year's Eve, a whole new Pub Crawl to work on there, and for my 56th birthday celebrations, as if I want to be reminded, it's a local derby with recently relegated Dagenham & Redbridge at the home of football, that could be fun, just avoid the Spread afterwards! The season ends with another home game, the fixture computer really likes us, against Macclesfield, a game which could be of importance to both sides, hopefully at different ends of the table, but one that the Shrimpers would look upon favourably if points are needed. Then again, let's hope it's all sewn up by then. Ahh, such optimisim in June, don't you love it! More on the fixtures and getting those cheap fares in for those early away trips later, but for now you can take your time over what the League have coughed up for us by going here: www.southendunited.co.uk/page/Fixtures/0,,10444,00.html Enjoy!
