Shrimpers silent on wages claims

Sky Sports News claim the struggling League One side have failed to pay the squad for February.[LNB]But when contacted, a Southend spokesman said the club would not be making any comment on the issue.[LNB]The Shrimpers recently dismissed reports that they had failed to pay their players for January as "rumour and speculation."[LNB]Southend avoided a winding-up order in London's High Court earlier this month when a case brought by HM Revenue and Customs over an unpaid £200,000 was adjourned for 28 days.[LNB]Club chairman Ron Martin claimed the club did not owe money to HMRC because they overpaid when settling an outstanding £2.15million debt in November.[LNB]The club's lawyers proceeded to write to HMRC to say they were "astounded" it had decided to proceed with a winding-up petition over a disputed debt.[LNB][LNB][LNB] Southend v Charlton.
