Shrimpers sign youngster on pro contract
Young midfielder Merrick James-Lewis has signed a two-year professional contract with Southend United. Merrick James-Lewis: In with the big boys18-year-old midfielder Merrick James-Lewis has impressed Blues boss Paul Sturrock so much he's been offered a two-year development contract which he's grabbed. The former Fulham apprentice has worked his way through the youth ranks and his promotion will please under-18 coach Ricky Duncan.Merrick has already been involved in first-team training this season and has also played with the Blues Two's, coming on a second half substitute at Oxford earlier this week.
