Shrimpers showing set piece surprises ready for Shrews

If Friday visitors Shrewsbury Town believe watching videos of the Shrimpers set pieces, especially from corners involving Ryan Hall, they may be fooling themselves they know what's coming up next, especially if the exciting winger doesn't start the game

Peter Gilbert: On the scoresheet for the Shrimpers after a new corner routine worked out with.......     loanee and double goalscorer himself, take a bow, Michael Timlin!   Shrimpers left back Peter Gilbert grabbed his second goal in succession against Rotherham United Saturday, after eight years of waiting since the last time he found the old onion bag, and it followed a short corner routine he worked with Michael Timlin, which helped both players get into the League Two Team of the Week (see link below.)   Gilbert shot home from 18-yards finding the bottom right-hand corner, and it all came about without the regular star Southend assister Ryan Hall, who usually takes most of the Shrimpers set pieces but was suspended for the trip to the Don Valley Stadium, and may find himself sitting on the bench Friday evening as Shrewsbury Town visit the south-east Essex.   The defender told www.echo-news.co.uk: “In previous games we’d had success at the near post from corners with both Mark Phillips and myself scoring and we knew Rotherham would have been aware of that. The man they therefore put on the near post wouldn’t want to move from there, so myself and Tims decided we would take the first corner we had short to catch them out and it was great we managed to score.”   Let's hope the imagination showed that brought about this stunner can be repeated in the big League Two clash between the second and third placed sides under the lights of Roots Hall.
