Shrimpers scorers speak: Bomber lands first, Timmo on the double, Gilbo goal machine!

Southend United had the rare luxury of scoring four goals away from home Saturday against Rotherham United, and as you can expect there were some happy faces returning to south-east Essex. Peter Gilbert: On the scoresheet for the Shrimpers with the opening goal   4-0, away from home, third in the table, it doesn't get boring writing that a day after the event. The Millers did start the League Two clash in second place!   Moreover, all the scorers spoke to the Echo after the game and gave an early reaction.   After waiting eight years before heading home against former club Plymouth Argyle last Saturday left-back Peter Gilbert now has two in two after his strike from the edge of the area following a Shrimpers corner!   The former Northampton defender said: 'Goals seem to be like buses for me. We've shown what we can do here and it's fantastic but there's an awful long way to go.'   That's usually three turning up in a row, so it must mean another against Shrewsbury Town on Friday, thanks very much!   This certainly leaves him happier than an earlier quote in this week's league paper that players are resorting to the old boy's network to make sure they are not going to sign for a club that could enter financial administration later on in the season!   Gilbert said: "They will ask lads who they know there or who know about the club if people are getting paid their wages."   Proof again what a good job Blues boss Paul Sturrock did during last summers financial breakdown at Roots Hall in getting an entire squad of players to sign on the dotted line!   Michael Timlin: A stunning brace from the player on loan from Swindon    Loanee midfielder Michael Timlin took the game away from the South Yorkshire side with two absolute beauties. Timmo said: 'I should score more goals so I'm happy with that. When I get goals they tend to be good but I need to get more of them.' It follows on from his equally stunning free-kick against Hereford away last season during his first spell on loan. Neil Harris: Millwall scoring legend gets his first in a Shrimpers shirt at last   It had to happen sooner or later for Bomber Harris, and let's be thankful, after a spell out with injury, we haven't had to wait any longer.   Harris told www.echo-news.co.uk: 'I'm delighted. It doesn't matter if you're 17 or 34, getting that first goal is very special, especially for Southend.' And Harris is hoping that after all the work he's put in with physiotherapist Ben Clarkson the groin problem he's been suffering from is a thing of the past. He said: “When I was out injured just recently I trained really hard for a couple of weeks with Ben and I've felt really sharp since then. I had a really good week's training in the build up to this game but getting this kind of result is far more important than me getting a goal. I think we've shown our credentials and how good our team spirit is with this kind of display and result but the most important thing is that we don't get carried away by it."
