Shrimpers Sawyer wants to bounce back against Burton: 'Of course it's been frustrating not playing

Southend United midfielder Lee Sawyer is hoping that his boss Paul Sturrock has seen enough to give the former Chelsea trainee a starting spot against Burton Albion at the weekend. Sawyer: 'I’m feeling good and aim to show that when I get the chance' So Blues boss Paul Sturrock has rattled some cages and promises to make changes for the visit of Paul Peschisolido's Burton Albion Saturday afternoon at Roots Hall. He could have sealed a spot already as after making late subsitute appearances in all four of the Shrimpers four games played so far young Lee has had a chance to leave his mark, a fantastic dribble here, opening defences there, but once in front of goal the finish sadly isn't. Even so the ex-Chelsea youth must be in the forefront of Luggy's wish to freshen up his side after the second half madness at Crawley Town Tuesday evening that led to a three-goal defeat.   Sawyer told www.echo-news.co.uk: “My confidence is high at the moment and I’m just waiting to make the most of a chance that comes that way. I obviously hope it comes tomorrow because it would be great to try and help the team bounce back from losing at Crawley.” Ironically, the 21-year old's last start as a Shrimper was in the 1-1 draw against the Brewers last May also at the home of football. Sadly he picked up two yellow cards in the final 12 minutes, the red being shown three minutes into stoppage time, (poor decision, unlucky), and that was the end of his season! Sawyer explained: “It was a harsh red card and I certainly hope things go better for me this weekend. I’m quite happy with the impact I’ve made when I’ve come on in the matches and would like to play more now. Of course it’s been frustrating not playing but I understand the decision as I didn’t play as well as I can during pre-season. I find those matches harder than the league games sometimes but I’m pleased with my form now and I’ve confidence back too. I’m feeling good and aim to show that when I get the chance.” And we wouldn't mind seeing him given the chance as well but Luggy might decide not to make as many changes as he's been threatening to do, we will see.
